Apple fritter bread

Apple fritter bread is a delightful treat that combines the flavors of cinnamon, apples, and a sweet glaze reminiscent of classic apple fritters. Here’s a simple recipe to make apple fritter bread:

Ingredients:

For the bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup diced apples (peeled and cored)

For the cinnamon sugar topping:

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and granulated sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly. Add the melted butter, applesauce, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter.
  8. Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon sugar layer. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. While the bread is baking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  11. Once the bread is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread.
  13. Slice and serve the apple fritter bread, and enjoy!

This apple fritter bread is best enjoyed fresh but can also be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can reheat slices in the microwave for a few seconds if desired.
