Southern fried salmon patties are a delicious and comforting dish that’s perfect for a cozy meal. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb salmon fillets, skin removed
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 1/4 cup finely diced bell pepper (any color)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- Cook the salmon fillets: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the salmon fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Season the salmon with salt and pepper, and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Flake the cooked salmon: Once the salmon has cooled, use a fork to flake the cooked salmon into small pieces, removing any bones if present.
- Prepare the salmon mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flaked salmon, diced onion, diced bell pepper, minced garlic, chopped parsley, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the salmon patties: Add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs to the salmon mixture and mix until everything is evenly incorporated. Shape the mixture into patties, about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. You should get around 6-8 patties depending on the size.
- Heat the vegetable oil: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking. You’ll need enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet by about 1/4 inch.
- Fry the salmon patties: Carefully place the salmon patties into the hot oil, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the skillet. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a spatula to flip them gently.
- Drain and serve: Once cooked, transfer the fried salmon patties to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve the patties hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or remoulade.
Enjoy your homemade Southern fried salmon patties as a delicious main course or appetizer!
